It’s refreshing to see auto brands who get it right for a change. Seems so many are trying to sell “design” as a leading point of difference, but few are able to communicate this experientially.

Audi seems to have gotten it down with their A8 Pavilion at Art Basel last year. It was designed to coincide with ‘The Art of Progress’ exhibition in collaboration with Design Miami/ Tom Dixon and was open for a week only.

Though it seems like the more abstract and creative concepts are still mainly come out of Europe. Citroën is a perfect example, having created the DS3 Design Driver – a huge red lamp serving as a lounge outside the Montenapoleone metro in Milan. They say they wanted the lounge to be a premium environment for people to meet and share ideas, projects and creativity. It’s such a simple concept, hence why it’s so refreshing.

Flavorwire has gathered up fashion’s 10 most dramatic runway shows of all time and have done quite a nice job at that. You look things like Chanel’s RTW Fall 2010 show where they imported a gigantic iceberg from Scandinavia or Karl Lagerfeld’s insistence on converting the Great Wall of China into a runway and you cant tell if they are genius or horrific. Probably a little bit of both, but I bet we could come up with 10 ideas for shows that cost less than Fendi’s $10MM.

While the big budget shows are groundbreaking, what’s the new runway show trend for smaller brands? It’s probable that we will start seeing more fashion brands moving towards digital and providing more in depth means of social interaction online. Some of the more trend setting brands are already there and surely more will follow since it’s a bit more cost effective. Alexander McQueen’s 2010 RTW womenswear show was streamed live on his website. Though I suspect if the production budgets are there then it makes sense to find a creative ideas for shows that are more practical vs. producing shows for the purely for the wow factor. Moncler’s idea of having 100 models staged on a scaffold at Chelsea Piers to show that their jackets can withstand the winter wind chills from the Hudson River is absolutely brilliant. It wasn’t the most elaborate of builds, but served a very practical purpose in a clever way.

For those of you who happen to be in the New England area this winter and lucky enough to still nab yourself a ticket, I highly recommend you try and see a new form of theater genius that’s come over from our friends across the pond.

Punchdrunk are British theater troupe who have created a new style of immersive theater productions- basically they create a surreal world where the audience is free to chose what they want to watch and where to roam. It’s come over stateside from London for a short time and the US production is in Brookline, MA (Boston). They’ve basically taken over an old 5-story high school and transformed it into an installation of a world of Macbeth with influences of Hitchcock. You can wander into no less than 100 rooms with a different set built inside of each-

I can safely say Broadway is light years behind.
