While the hearts of the world are going out to earthquake victims in Haiti, social technologies are making sure that donations are headed their way as well.
The Red Cross twittered today that $35 million has been raised in 48 hours for victims of this disaster, with $5 million alone coming through text messages. Mass awareness for the texting method of fundraising has spread virally via Twitter and Facebook status updates, helping shatter any record the Red Cross has seen before for mobile giving.
If you haven’t already, please text “Haiti” to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross, which will be added to your phone bill. Most phone companies are refunding any text message fees associated with these donations.
Or, make a donation to Wyclef’s Yele Foundation for Haiti.

Staggering photos of this disaster are being shared by citizen journalists across social sites, and “Red Cross” has been a top Twitter trend topic for days now. Social media for social good is a powerful weapon in dealing with tragedy- let’s keep momentum going to show support and help send aid to everyone affected by this crisis.
